Child Abuse?

Child Abuse

So I stumbled upon this photo on a natural hair Facebook group and decided to share it with you all to see your thoughts?

I personally, do have to agree with the photo to some extent. I think as long as the child is over the age of 13 and able to fully vocalize the sensations that she is feeling do to the relaxer than things should be fine. But if you are relaxing under the age of 13…then yeah I would have to say it’s child abuse. I’m not quite sure when my mother began to relax my hair, I should ask her lol.

All I know is that my future lil mama will not have relaxed tresses until she decides to do so…maybe.

Thoughts?

  1. This is a tough one. I do think that the chemicals are way to severe for a growing child that is unable to verbalize the burning and such. I don’t know if I’d categorize it as child abuse though. I don’t think parents (hopefully not) are maliciously relaxing and giving their children chemical burns because they are trying to make them suffer. I think they believe their child’s hair is unmanageable and this is the only way to rectify the situation. If anything, it’s ignorance and “monkey see monkey do” that causes parents to relax their baby’s hair. They seemingly don’t know any better and/or that’s just what people do.
