Happy Monday everyone!
So I’m pretty sure you all have noticed that natural hair products are freaking EXPENSIVE. I mean if you are a product junkie like me, then all these online companies with their products and their good ingredients are hard to steer clear of. Thankfully, I have put myself on a no-buy for hair products, because I clearly have more than enough currently. Yet in still, trial and error can be expensive especially since what works for you might not work for me.
So I figured, I start a new seriers showcasing some of my natural hair products that you can get on the ground (OTG). Basically these are all products that can be found at your local drugstore or big box store such as Target. So you won’t have to deal with price markups or shipping fees and most of the products can be used the same day you make your purchase. So for all my divas on a budget, this series is for you.
First up, one of my favorite brands when I first went natural was Shea Moisture. I mean the products were moderately cheap, contained great ingredients and they had a wonderful variety of products for all different hair types.
A few of my favorite products include:
Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque
Price: $11.99 at Target
Weight: 12 oz
Contains: Contains de-ionized water, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea butter) (denotes certified organic ingredients), Argan oil, vegetable glycerin, emulsifying wax, sea kelp extract, Panthenol (vitamin B-5), essential oil blend, avocado oil, Lonicera Caprifolium (honeysuckle) flower and Lonicera Japonica (Japanese honeysuckle) flower extract, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Hyssopus Officinalis Extract, Salvia Officinalis (sage) leaf and Equisetum Arvense Extract, soybean oil and Daucus Carota Sativa (carrot) seed oil.
Claims: This rich treatment deeply moisturizes and repairs hair, while providing a protective barrier for the hair from heat and styling aids.
Use: After shampooing, massage into wet hair and leave on for 5-45 minutes. Add a plastic cap and moderate heat for deep penetration.
My Thoughts: I absolutely love this creamy, deep conditioner. I always use this with heat and often add oil and honey just to amp up the moisture. It provides great slip and leaves my hair feeling soft after one use. I often use this once a week during the winter months and twice a week in the summertime. Great product for a great price.
Secondly from the raw shea butter line I like the Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner.
Price: $9.99 at Target
Weight: 13 oz.
Contains: Contains de-ionized water, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea butter)*, Argan oil, coconut oil*, Behentrimonium chloride, essential oil blend, vegetable glycerin, emulsifying wax, sea kelp extract, Panthenol (vitamin B-5), avocado oil, Lonicera Caprifolium (honeysuckle) flower and Lonicera Japonica (Japanese honeysuckle) flower extract, Tocopherol (vitamin E) and Daucus Carota Sativa (carrot) seed oil. *Denotes certified organic ingredients.
Claims: Moisturizes and repairs dry, lifeless, over-processed and damaged hair.
After shampooing, work conditioner through hair from roots to ends. Leave on hair for up to 1 minute, then rinse thoroughly or leave on hair for up to 15 minutes for deeper conditioning. As a leave-in conditioner, work a dime-sized amount through damp hair, then style as desired.
My Thoughts: Yet another creamy favorite from this line. I love the versatility of this conditioner. I used this as a daily conditioner, a deep conditioner and to cowash with. One of my favorite things about it though is that it has a PUMP! Yes a pump makes life so much easier when trying to apply conditioner. Again provides mositure and left my strands feeling very soft. My type of 3-n-1 product.
Next up from the thick and curly line is the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk.
Weight: 8 oz.
Contains: Nucifera (coconut) oil (denotes certified organic ingredients), Isopropyl Myristate, sugar starch, silk protein, essential oil blend, Melia Azadirachta (Neem) seed oil, Caprylyl glycol, Sorbitol Esters, algae extract, Hyssopus Officinalis Extract, Salvia Officinalis (sage) leaf and Equisetum Arvense Extract, Daucus Carota Sativa (carrot) seed oil, Lonicera Caprifolium (honeysuckle) flower and Lonicera Japonica (Japanese honeysuckle) flower extract and Tocopherol (vitamin E).
Claims: Detangles, conditions and defines curls while restoring body and shine
Use: Apply to damp hair; use sparingly, dispensing a dime-size amount into palm. Rub hands together and distribute evenly throughout hair. Avoid applying directly to roots. Do not rinse out, but style hair as desired.
My Thoughts: I purchased this after reading all the great reviews regarding this product. I used this as the C in my LCO routine and love it. Very creamy and definitely defined my curls. It smells divine and wasn’t too sticky or oily. This is definitely I product I would love to revisit in the near future. My only qualm is the amount of product for the price, however the pros definitely outweigh this con so I will purchase this during a sale. Also, for you divas who are protein sensitive this product does contain a silk protein, actually I think this whole line contains silk proteins so this may be one you avoid.
Lastly, one of my ultimate favorite products from Shea Moisture is the African Black Soap Purification Masque.
Price: $10.49 at Target

Contains: Deionized Water , Cocos Nucifera Oil (Coconut) , Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) , Mangfera Indica Seed Butter (Mango) , Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado) , African Black Soap Extract , Sea Salt , Cetyl Esters , Kaolin Clay , Grapeseed Oil , Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Jojoba) , Behentrimonium Chloride (Conditioner) , Salicylic Acid , Salix Alba (Willow Bark) Extract , Melia Azadirachta Seed Oil (Neem) , Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Oil , Sorbitol Esters , Aloe Vera Leaf Juice , Tocopherol (Vitamin E) , Rosemary Extract , Salvia Officinalis Extract (Sage) , Plantain Extract
Claims: SheaMoisture’s African Black Soap Purification Masque conditions hair while relieving dry, itchy scalp. This intensive treatment removes product buildup while strengthening hair by sealing in natural moisture.
Use: Section clean, wet hair. Apply generously from root to ends, massaging gently into scalp. Use a wide tooth comb to distribute evenly. Leave in 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. For deep penetrating treatment, cover hair with a plastic cap and apply moderate heat for up to 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. When using a hair steamer do not cover hair, moist heat will add to masque’s hydration.
My thoughts: Holy Grail Alert. Yes lord this masque is thee truth. I absolutely love this! It provides great slip, cleanses my strands and provides excellent moisture. I often use this with heat for an added bonus and boy does my hair thank me for that. Thank to the tea tree oil, it’s also great for dandruff or itchy scalp relief. However, I don’t enjoy the smell and since I’m heavy handed, I go through this product rather quickly. Definitely a repurchase and holds a special part in my regimen as a cleansing conditioner.
Overall I love shea mositure products because they don’t contain all this nasty stuff:
No Propylene Glycol
No Mineral Oil
No Synthetic Fragrance
No Synthetic Color
No Animal Testing
They are affordable and provide a variety of lines for all different hair types, which is a huge plus. I also love that they branch out to different things including body products, hair dyes (which I will be trying out this summer) and coming soon they are releasing a makeup line.. How cool is that?
Next up on my list to try are the Yucca & Aloe Thickening Growth Milk, the Yucca & Aloe Anti-Breakage Masque and a few of the body wash products. I’m pretty sure these will all be on sale at Target by the time my no-buy is over. Do you love Shea Moisture products? What are you favorites?
Peace and Love ❤
