Natural Hair DrugStore Series: Oyin Handmade

Hey all!

It’s time for another addition of my drugstore series. This time I’m featured products from one of my favorite lines.

Oyin has recently been released in Target stores…YIPEE as well as it is carried in my local WholeFoods so I had figured this would be the perfect company to feature for my series. I absolutely love Oyin products.

So the following are my favorites:

Honey Hemp Conditioner

This is a penetrating, detangling, seriously softening multipurpose conditioner, enriched with aloe vera gel, hemp oil, honey, and just a touch of hydrolyzed silk protein. (this is not your high protein rebuilding conditioner; we use just enough to make it silky ;o) HH has got great detangling slip and serious moisturizing power. It rinses cleanly and also makes a nice pre-shampoo deep conditioning treatment. (add oil or extra honey for superior DC power!) It can even be used as a creamy, nourishing leave-in!

This is one of my favorite conditioner’s, seriously this provides so much slip and moisture to my strands that it’s amazing. It’s chalked full of amazing ingredients including honey which my low porosity strands love year round.

Note: This product does include a silk protein ladies.

Price: $13.99

Hair Dew

This creamy, conditioning leave-in is light enough for every day. it’s great on ‘naked’ hair immediately after a cleanse, or as a way to reinvigorate tired hair all the way through your hair care cycle.

For seriously protective hair experience, try using hair dew on moist hair (or over a quick spritz of one of our Juices herbal leave-ins) and then seal ends with one of the Sugar Pomades before gently manipulating hair into a protective style like braids, twists, or an updo. days of moisture, sheen, and hair happiness!

Again, this is definitely a holy grail product. I freaking use this stuff like there is no tomorrow. It is the perfect light weight leave in for my difficult strands. Also, to my low po ladies this isn’t a very heavy moisturizer so you won’t have to worry about product buildup. Also contains wonderful ingredients and has a light smell.

whipped pudding

Whipped Pudding

This rich, dense, shea-butter-based moisturizing cream is Oyin’s first product. It’s a mixture of rich botanical butters & oils like shea butter, cocoa butter, and castor oil; blended with plenty of aloe vera gel and pure water for lightness & penetration. The result is superior, rich, penetrating moisture in an all-purpose, head-to-toe product. You may have noticed that it’s listed under both hair and body products!

Whipped pudding is very lightly scented with chocolate and vanilla fragrance to enhance the scent of the whole butters and essential oils. To add your own fragrance oil, microwave for 5 seconds until stirrable, then mix in your scent of choice.

By now you should be able to tell that I love this line. I pretty much have all of there products on my holy grail list. Anyway I love whipped pudding for twist outs, braid outs, bantu knots and of course using to do mini twists. This pudding provides excellent moisture and defines my hair something serious. I love that it has both glycerin and honey along with other rich butters.

Note: Product does contain glycerin and honey.

Price: 13.99 for 4 ounces

The Sugar Pomades

Similar in texture to an old school ‘hair grease,’ This blend of oils, butters, and veggie waxes acts as a humectant and protectant for hair, increasing shine to a high glossy sheen and locking in moisture. It’s packed with essential fatty acids to nourish scalp, and actually sinks into your hair and skin for a long lasting, non-greasy feeling. It’s great for braids, imparts shine and moisture to loose hair, brushes nicely into the hairline for a glossy finish, and adds luster to locks! Contains virgin coconut cream, mango oil, and hempseed oil in a base of nourishing castor oil.

To all my oil lovers, this product is perfect for you. As you can see from above this product contains hempseed oil, castor oil, mango oil along with other amazing oils. I use the pomades for twist outs and of course bantu knot outs along with sealing in moisture during my LCO routine. This coupled with the whipped pudding provides me with bomb mositure and amazing definition. I also love that it comes in two different fragrances, the burnt sugar reminds me of a maple syrup smell and the sugar berries smells of sweet juciy berries. Whichever one you pick will leave your hair smelling oh so good. My only gripe is that so far I haven’t seen the sugar berries pomade at my Target or Whole Foods…GRRR so I haven’t escaped shipping charges just but I mean it’s worth it so hey I won’t fret.

Price: 13.99 for 4 ounces

Oyin also makes body products, baby prouducts, men products and offers mini products so you can try out the line before committing to the larger products. One product I’m specifically interested in is currently on a flash sale and I think I will pick up a few just to test out for the summer.
