Yes, you read that correctly, Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I mean I hit my shmoney dance as soon as I found out that Shea Moisture was dropping this collection. The JBCO line is meant to strengthen, grow and restore and most of the products in the collection contain apple cider vinegar and Jamaican Black Castor Oil.

Our Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Hair Care Collection fortifies and renews, while supporting healthy growth for all hair types, including chemically treated, heat styled, natural and transitioning. Restores dry, brittle, damaged hair with a special blend of nourishing, natural, certified organic and ethically sourced ingredients. Black Castor Oil’s rich omega oil content has reparative benefits for hair and scalp. Certified organic Shea Butter bathes hair in nutrient-rich fatty acids and vitamins. Apple Cider Vinegar, with natural alpha hydroxy acids, clarifies hair and aids in balancing pH. Rice Protein adds thickness and smooths strands. Panthenol, a humectant, infuses water into hair and scalp. Peppermint Oil invigorates and stimulates the scalp’s circulation. Coconut Oil intensely moisturizes hair, while helping to prevent breakage. (www.sheamoisture.com)

So I had recently taken out my protective style and was in serious need of a wash day, such perfect timing to try out these new products. Since this line doesn’t contain a rinse out conditioner I did add in my SheScentit Blueberry CoWash conditioner. Shall we begin?

My Thoughts:

I’ve only used this product as a hot oil treatment/ pre-poo before my wash day and I love it. It is true that a little goes a long way. I’m planning on using it to massage my scalp before I do bantu knots this weekend. I will say this, if you can find this in your local CVS buy it, because it’s 10.99 on Shea Moisture’s website.

Usage:

My Thoughts:

I’ve used the shampoo twice in two different wash settings and each time I was pleased. I did not get that squeaky clean feeling after using it. It did in fact clarify my strands as well as provided moisture. I did not attempt to detangle because I instead detangled when I applied my rinse out conditioner. The shampoo does have a tiny vanilla smell but nothing too overpowering. I did notice that this does contain two proteins for my protein sensitive divas out there.

My Thoughts:

curls2 curls

I did notice that this deep conditioner isn’t as thick as the usual Shea Moisture deep conditioners. I also noticed that the deep conditioner left me with a tingly sensation which I’m assuming is due to the peppermint oil.  I used the deep conditioner twice and both times loved it. It left my curls poppin, shiny and soft. I will say that I wanted castor oil to be listed higher than what it was being that this is a deep conditioner. Overall, I love this product and will def add this to my holy grail list.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Edge Treatment

Edge Treatment edge treatment2

Featured Ingredients:

Organic Shea Butter – Deeply moisturizes while conditioning hair and scalp.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil – Loaded with reparative omegas that promote healthy hair growth.
Peppermint – Stimulates the scalp for an invigorating experience.

Ingredients:

Glycerin (Vegetable),  Water,  Zea Mays (Corn) Bud/Seed Extract,  Pectin,  Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil,  Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*,  Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract,  Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice,  Hydrolyzed Keratin, Tocopherol,  Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil,  Panthenol,  Vinegar,  Cetrimonium Chloride,  Agave Tequilana Stem Extract,  Niacin, Potassium Sorbate,  Mauritia Flexuosa Fruit Oil,  Fragrance (Essential Oil Blend), Yeast Extract, Citric Acid *Certified Organic Ingredient

Usage:

Rub a small amount together in hands and apply to dry, styled hair, smoothing flyaways with fingertips. For maximum control apply small dabs to hairline, and to ends or damaged areas. Can also be used as a pre-styler on towel-dried hair. For maximum control , apply small dabs to hairline and to edges the night before and cover with a silk scarf. In the morning the hair will be slicked back and well hydrated.

My Thoughts:

Initially when I noticed this product in CVS, I thought it was going to be like some sort of gel like product specifically for rebuilding edges. However, once I opened the product I was taken aback for a moment. The product was a soupy like consistency and I knew would not be meant to tame my crazy fly aways. So instead I used the product to do mini twists and I will say that for a few days my twists were juicy but then they were just dull. I’m assuming it was due to the glycerin. So this time around I’m going to just specifically use it on my edges. Overall the product was cool but I think its amazing that they have created a product devoted to restoring edges.

There are two other products that I have not been able to locate yet, a leave in and a styling lotion. Once I locate them I will do a product review on both.  Overall, I think this new line is great. If possible, I would like to see the addition of a rinse out conditioner. Lastly, I only had a slight qualm with the ingredients, they don’t really specify if the castor oil is Jamaican Black Castor Oil and they don’t really state whether or not if it’s Apple Cider Vinegar or regular Vinegar.

Have you tried the new line yet? What are your thoughts?

Peace and Love ❤
